Migratory Birds

Birds fill our world with beauty. Join a discussion about birds you might see and hear throughout Lapham Peak, from the melodic sound of the American Robin to the elusive Wood Thrush. Learn interesting facts about these songbirds and more, and how you can help make your space more bird-friendly: from ensuring safe migration paths, to providing sources of food, water, and shelter and places to nest and rear their young. Help celebrate World Migratory Bird Day 2025 all year long, which focuses on the many ways we can help birds where we live. This year’s theme is Shared Spaces, Creating Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities. Jessica Rice is an amateur birder and avid Lapham Peak enthusiast. Water resources and native plants are also her passions. At the park she has volunteered to help remove buckthorn and garlic mustard throughout the years and has also volunteered at Hausmann Nature Center. Since 2005 Jessica has served as the Citizen Lake Monitor for Silver Lake in Waukesha County and has worked on invasive species prevention projects like the Clean Boats, Clean Waters watercraft education program and a Eurasian watermilfoil hand-pulling project. In addition, she is a graduate of the Wisconsin Lake Leaders Institute program.
